60-second Case Study: Tape, Tape and More Tape

When a client in Atlanta asked us how we ensure that a green roof installation is flawless, we explained it like this:

Let’s say you’re shipping a box and put a piece of tape over the lap, or the place where the two pieces of cardboard come together. If you want to be extra sure that the tape will hold firm, you put an even wider piece of tape of the first one so there’s overlap on both sides. Now that will hold firm! We apply the same principle to your vegetative roof.

Our installation technicians weld another 12” strip over each lap and then seal those overlapping. We call this a “sacrificial strip” and it is not required — but it’s well worth the attention to detail. You want zero leaks because you definitely don’t want to dig up all those beautiful plants to try to find one.
