Sentry Roof has moved!
After nearly 10 years as a tenant at our S. Berkeley Lake Road location, we’ve purchased a building that’s more than 50% larger and suits our growing company much better. It’s located at 5430 Buford Highway in Norcross, GA, which is less than three miles from the previous location, so it’s convenient for our team. And the timing is perfect because it coincides with our 35th year in business.
Here’s how the new property makes us even more efficient:
We had grown to occupy three separate buildings at the previous location. Being so spread out, we were struggling to communicate with one another effectively. The new location allowed us to renovate our workspace to suit our workflow better. Now there’s less wasted space and better workstations, and it’s easier to have face-to-face conversations with co-workers when needed while also having more privacy for phone calls.
We needed to make other major changes to the building as well. We had to address all of the electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, and completely gut the carpet, paint, ceiling, and all of the bathroom and kitchen features. We went with LED lighting throughout and now the entire property is clean and light. We took the opportunity to replace our desks and chairs, too.
The renovation took three months to complete — we were lucky to have few surprises, even though the building was built in 1975!
The building itself is more than twice as spacious as our previous building, going from 7,000 SF to 11,000 SF. About 40% of the new space dedicated to our warehouse. The amount of warehouse space is actually slightly less than at the previous location but we now have much more outdoor, fenced-in storage space. It’s now easier to bring in large orders and break them down for different jobs, and we can lock up our repair trucks overnight. Plus, our new building has a lot more parking for guests and employees — we sealed and striped the lot before moving in.
Everyone on our office team helped out for the weekend move. The staff moved their own items, the moving company moved the big items, and our IT expert worked all weekend long to make sure our IT was fully operational — complete with increased internet capacity and cellular backup — by Monday morning. We’ll finish moving everything from the old warehouse to the new one this month.
We do a lot of training at Sentry and our new setup is very conducive to learning — regardless of the weather. In the previous location, we would hold our classes in a section of our warehouse, which can get pretty hot in the summer or cold in the winter. Now we have a dedicated training room that’s bright, climate controlled and set up in the classic classroom style. We’ve already held an OSHA 10 class and a couple of other classes in the few weeks we’ve been here.
Even with the significantly larger property, we’re still maintaining our satellite office for our Service department in Marietta for the time being. And, since we’re in the middle of re-roofing the main Terminal of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, we also have an office in College Park to service that project.
I am happy to say that even before we acquired this property the roofing system was performing well. It’s an older gravel-surfaced, built-up roof that only needed a few repairs — it should last a long time.
It’s usually an invigorating feeling to get a fresh start, and having moved to this new location is no exception. Our team is energized and already very comfortable in the new surroundings. If you’d like to stop by to talk about managing your commercial roof, re-roofing an aging roof, or the condition of the roof on a property you may acquire, I invite you to give us a call. We’re here to help. And there’s plenty of parking.
