FAQ: Proper Maintenance

1. If the roof isn’t leaking, why pay for maintenance?

Maintaining your roof to prevent problems can save you a lot of money.

Think of your roofing system like your car — if you don’t periodically change your oil, fill your tires and check your belts and hoses, you’re asking for trouble down the road. And, as with your car, it’s much more cost-effective to keep your roofing system in good working order than to fix it (or even replace it) when something goes wrong.

Most roofing system problems are preventable, and roofs that are properly maintained usually last 25% longer. That can be as much as five to eight years!

2. How often should my roof be looked at?

We typically recommend quarterly visits but twice a year or even annually may be appropriate for your roof. A quality maintenance program will include a full report with photos and recommendations after each visit so you know what’s going on with your roofing system. The number of visits required may change over time, depending on the age and condition of your roof.

3. What’s included in your maintenance program?

With Sentry Roof Care, we clean off and haul away debris, clear the drainage system, inspect everything — we complete seven services during each visit. You also get a three-year roofing capital budget each year plus priority scheduling if something comes up. Plus there’s no contract — you can cancel the program at any time.

One of the main advantages is that if something does go wrong, we’re already familiar with your roof so it’s a lot easier to pinpoint and fix the problem.

4. How does a maintenance program affect my warranty?

A properly maintained roof system by a professional company can actually preserve your warranty. Sentry Roof Care, our annual maintenance program, includes performing the essential tasks that are required to keep your warranty valid.
